THE HISTORY OF THE PRAGUE MARATHON
The Prague Marathon was founded in 1995 and has since gained international fame for its particularly fast course. The founder of the marathon, our fellow Italian Carlo Capalbo, could never have imagined the success it would achieve within just a few years. The first edition had only 958 runners at the start, and within a few years entries grew exponentially, reaching the 2018 record: 12,000 runners.
2 MAY 2027 is the date of the historic Prague Marathon.
Confirmed are the Race Bib Fees, subject to early sell-out:
- The Race Bib Fee is 85 Euro (EXTREMELY LIMITED RATE RESERVED FOR THE FIRST ENTRANTS ONLY)

Prague is the largest city in the Czech Republic, loved by tourists for its architectural beauty. Its historic centre has in fact been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The average temperature in May is 16/18 degrees, which is why this time of year is ideal for running the marathon.

The symbol of the city and an unmissable stop on any holiday in Prague is Prazsky Hrad Castle, which rises on a hill on the left bank of the Vltava. The majestic fortress - modernised by Maria Theresa of Austria at the end of the eighteenth century - is practically a city within the city.
Divided into three courtyards, the Castle comprises numerous buildings, including the Royal Palace, residence of the city's sovereigns, and the majestic St Vitus Cathedral, which holds the rulers' remains.
Of the royal residence - now home of the president of the republic - the enormous Vladislav Hall, once the scene of jousting tournaments, is well worth seeing; of the cathedral, built in Gothic style from the fourteenth century onwards, the choir and the Chapel of St Wenceslas are beautiful. The stroll along the Golden Lane is delightful, a charming row of small colourful houses, a favourite home of artists and once, it is said, of alchemists.
Another emblem of Prague is the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most), commissioned by the emperor of the same name in the 14th century. Along the bridge's 516 metres you will encounter some thirty statues, with mighty towers rising at each end; a place of artists and street vendors, the Charles Bridge is always crowded with tourists. In the historic district of Mala Strana, of ancient origins but with a now Baroque appearance, take time to visit the Church of St Nicholas.
The city of Prague is rich in museums, which represent an enormous artistic heritage.
Among these is the National Museum, the largest in the country, located in Wenceslas Square; inside are collections of mineralogy, zoology, palaeontology and prehistory. The museum also exhibits in the halls of the Lobkovic Palace. The National Gallery, the Museum of Decorative Arts with thousands of pieces of furniture, tapestries, crystal and porcelain. The Prague Art Gallery, located in the important complex of buildings of Prague Castle, houses a permanent collection of nineteenth-century Czech art.
