The Edinburgh Marathon 2027 | Edinburgh Marathon Festival is the second most important sporting event in the United Kingdom.
It is a very fast marathon, a true opportunity to improve your personal best: it is slightly downhill with a finish that naturally carries you through at speed.

The Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on 30 May 2027.
The Edinburgh Marathon is scheduled to start at 10.00 am from the city centre at Potterow near South Bridge.
The Edinburgh Half Marathon is scheduled to start at 8.00 am, also from Potterow . Both races finish in Musselburgh. The race time limit is 6 hours and 30 minutes.

The Edinburgh Marathon has the fastest course in the whole United Kingdom, the ideal race for a personal best or for anyone looking for a major international event. Race results are recorded via the well-known Champion Chip system, so that race times are published on the website and in Edinburgh's local newspapers.
Along the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon course there will be refreshment stations in line with UK marathon regulations (water, salts, Henery Gel and fruit every 5 km - sponge stations every 7.5 km).

Baggage storage:

A baggage storage service is available at the start, so that all athletes who wish to can collect their personal belongings at the finish.

Alongside the stunning Edinburgh Marathon, the Scottish organisers have added a series of

side events, which have always been hugely successful:

The city of Edinburgh is not only beautiful, it has almost everything it takes to be the perfect city. An example of organisation and civic spirit among its inhabitants that finds comparison in very few other cities in the world. The Scots are proud of Edinburgh and show it in every activity at the city's service. Everything is highly efficient, from the buses to the cleanliness of the public toilets: on building sites the workers, 90% of them Scottish, work with enthusiasm and calm. When you arrive in town you will find free advertising brochures on the various attractions of Edinburgh in every public venue and in every hotel.
If you pick up what is called Welcome to Edinburgh by Landmark Press, published by the Tourist Board, in one go you will have an absolutely complete overview of what you can do during your stay. Inside you will also find discounts on some attractions, for example the Royal Yacht Britannia.
There is a relaxed atmosphere even in times of crisis like these. In museums and public venues you will always be welcomed with a smile and a kind word; the people of Edinburgh will make you feel as if you were at home.
The many young people you will find in the city give Edinburgh a lively, carefree air, and you will certainly think: "how nice it would be if my children came to study here".
As for tourist accommodation, all of Edinburgh's many Hotels offer excellent quality standards. If you visit Edinburgh with children, rest assured you will have absolutely no problems: you will find pram ramps and dedicated services in every corner of the city.

Edinburgh is without doubt the Scottish city most visited by tourists from all over the world. This is because it still preserves intact all the pride of being the capital of Scotland, bastion and symbol of freedom. Its historic centre is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Europe. Besides the world-famous Edinburgh Castle there are many other attractions to see.
And if you wish, just 12 km from the city, served by a convenient bus service, is the famous Rosslyn Chapel, well known in recent years as a setting for "The Da Vinci Code".

History of Edinburgh

Edinburgh, capital of Scotland and seat of the Scottish Parliament, is one of the most famous tourist cities in all of Great Britain. The first urban settlements in the area date back to the 7th century, but the development of the modern city and political seat of Scotland began in the 15th century.
It was in fact in 1437 that the city was chosen as the capital. Its position on the estuary of the river Fort has favoured the growth of the port of Edinburgh and its opening to trade (18th century).

But the city's most important growth is due to the heavy and shipbuilding industry that began to develop following Great Britain's industrial boom. The population of Edinburgh expanded to such an extent that the city saw the rise of a "New Town", in contrast with the "Old Town", the original historic core.
Today Edinburgh has more than 450,000 inhabitants. Over time, heavy shipbuilding industry, fishing and agriculture were joined, in the Scottish economic balance, by the production of whisky and the extraction of oil and natural gas from the North Sea. The biggest item, however, is the one linked to tourism. The cultural growth of Scotland in general and of Edinburgh in particular dates back to the Age of Enlightenment and the Romantic period, when Edinburgh became one of Europe's cultural capitals and the natural scenery of the Highlands attracted Romantic poets and painters.
Edinburgh's tourism owes much to the organisation of its many festivals, especially during the summer, and to its lively cultural life.
Among the best known are the Blues Festival, the Military Tattoo Festival, the International Festival and the Book Fair.
For these reasons UNESCO has declared Edinburgh a "World Heritage Site".

Curiosities: Scotland and Magic

Not content with being home to one of the most fantastic mysteries on the planet, the existence or otherwise of Nessie (the monster said to lurk in the waters of Loch Ness), Scotland also hosts far more modern tales. Edinburgh was chosen as home by the famous (and multi-millionaire) writer J.K. Rowling, creator of the Harry Potter saga.
Try writing yourself in the pub where Rowling wrote Harry Potter. Many fans of the famous wizard's books believe that it is in Scotland that the Castle of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry lies hidden, while Professor McGonagall is certainly Scottish, and much of the films were set in Scotland itself, with its magical, misty atmospheres. And that is not all. Every day you can board the Hogwarts Express.
You do not leave from the fantastic platform nine and three quarters, but from Fort William and, even if you do not quite reach Hogwarts, you get to Mallaig, after crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct (immortalised in the film "The Chamber of Secrets"), which offers a beautiful view over Loch Shiel. The ticket costs around 25£.

Not only Rowling

Other famous works have also been set in Scotland. Above all we recall "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, which features Rosslyn Chapel in the outskirts of Edinburgh, known for its strong symbolism. Edinburgh is also the setting of both the book and the 90s cult film "Trainspotting".
Finally, Edinburgh was the birthplace, among others, of the writers Robert Louis Stevenson, author of "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde", and of the father of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Each participant pays a Package Price

from Fri. 28 to Mon. 31 May (3 nights);

from Fri. 28 to Tue. 1 June (4 nights) - with the option of the Tour of the Highlands on Mon. morning/afternoon.

On request it is possible to add extra days to your stay.

The Package Price consists of:

1- Deposit Fee;

2- Race Bib Fee, for those who request it;

3- Balance Fee.

1- The Deposit Fee is 80 Euro, plus the cost of any flight. In this regard we recommend requesting a quote for the flight itself. Alternatively, you can purchase your flight on your own.

2- The Race Bib Fee:

- Marathon is 249 Euro (Sunday morning);

- Half Marathon is 129 Euro (Sunday morning);

- 10 Km is 45 Euro (Saturday morning);

- 5 Km is 32 Euro (Saturday morning).

3- The Balance Fee is per person in a basic double/twin room:

- 499 Euro (4 days/3 nights) at the Hotel*** Best Western, about 2 km from the finish area.

On race day, hotel-to-race-start transfers are guaranteed by our organisation.

Any extra night costs:

- 129 Euro at our hotels.

The Balance Fee is paid 120 to 70 days before departure. It is refundable in case of cancellation (see General Terms and Conditions).

Solo Travellers:
Travelmarathon thinks of you too: if you wish to share the room with another runner, we will do our best to make it happen.
For those who prefer a Double room for single use from the outset, the cost for 5 days/4 nights is 1.499 Euro.
